JOURNALISM EXPERIENCE

• Fact checked and edited stories about the University of Maryland from four rotating reporters using photo stories and explainers; oversaw reporting on sexual assault prevention, sexism in computer science department and dishonest student apartment marketing; 10-20 hours/week.
• Covered complex topics like student suicide, nonbinary gender marker and racial reckoning on campus; obtained exclusive interviews with university administration about Israel-Palestine conflict.

• Covered Delaware and its LGBTQ+ community, reporting on legislation like ‘gay panic’ defense ban, community organizations, historic political candidates and events like a rosary outside an LGBTQ+ restaurant; 20-30 hours/week.
• Produced investigation into Trevor Project’s struggle to support queer youth after a gaping budget hole triggered massive layoffs that seemed to target dissidents, and led to an NLRB case. The piece gathered almost 1 million views.

• Identified hundreds of local news outlets across Maryland’s 23 counties for Phillip Merrill College of Journalism study documenting the rapid decline of local news outlets.
• Analyzed school district spending data for statewide project, finding massive sums paid to credit card companies, thousands spent on fancy watches for retiring employees and inconsistent spending disclosure requirements.

• Reported on campus issues for WMUC News, Stories Beneath the Shell and the Diamondback, including the renovation of a campus creek that would benefit Chesapeake Bay by removing pollutants like nitrogen and dangerous conditions for low-wage workers keeping the university’s quarantine and isolation housing afloat.

LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE

• Led and founded university chapter of NLGJA, giving LGBTQ+ journalists a space to connect and learn; 5 hours/week.

• Supervised and trained students who operate three cameras in classrooms to allow University of Maryland distance learners to participate in class, repaired Extron A/V system issues; 20 hours/week.
